So yesterday her campaign penned an article in response to her competitor saying that the #metoo movement wouldn't exist if people were tougher.

In response her campaign ran an ad as an open letter to Cramer, signed off by "125 victims" of sexual assault. The problem? They did not seek permission of the people to publish their names. From what I heard this morning it's believed the names were pulled from a Facebook post that tagged a number of people asking them to sign off on a letter. It seems they pulled the names of the tagged people. Not an approved list of signatories who agreed to be named.

One woman was on CNN this morning rightfully upset that she was "outed" as a victim. She already walked around feeling like people were looking at her as a victim. now they know her name.

Heitkamp issued an apology and said they would be retracting the letter but the damage is already done.

Ironically victimized them further. That's pretty callous.

HH prosecuted sex crimes in the past and her mother was a victim. I doubt she knew. However unlike most politicians she is taking ownership of the screwup

From what I recall, she has a slim chance of a win anyhow, but I would definitely fire those responsible and own it as she has done. At least doing that makes her far above the republicans in morality.

The staffer they say was responsible has already been fired. It just saddens me what depths people will go to in politics to get a leg up. Many of the people weren't victims at all. Their families and friends have been inundating them with calls. I can only imagine those that actually were victims how this has impacted their lives.

Those mountains should be turned into open pit mines so they have more jerbs

There are no mountains in ND, that is the funny part. There are some rolling hills in the middle of the state. But for the most part it is flat as a board. Why when it floods it floods. I was in Fargo during the 1997 floods. We left the city on I-29 and headed north until it was blocked off. The water was about 1-2 foot deep for 30 miles in every direction and looked like the ocean. Only reason Fargo wasnt under 10 feet of water were the 11 foot high dikes they built. Grand Forks didnt fair so well. They under-estimated the river crest and it destroyed their dikes and flooded the city. Then to top it off the city started on fire in the middle of a blizzard. If there is a hell on earth when it comes to weather. It was the Red River Valley in the spring of 97.

They shouldn't have done it. But I don't understand the mass outrage here. People publicly post something on Facebook, then are pissed off that the public sees it?

Just because it's public doesn't mean they want it to be a spectacle.

They didn’t. People tagged them in the post. They never responded or signed off. Seems more like someone knew or thought they were a victim and would want to sign. The campaign published all their names.

Regardless though what I can share on my own and what someone else can publish in a newspaper under my name are vastly different.

Outrage is due to using their names without permission. It is one thing to say something in public on a FB post. It is another when a campaign takes that and uses it for the betterment of the campaign. Very tone deaf and stupid to do such a thing.

If it was from someone else tagging them, that is different (also why you shouldn't allow others to tag you).

But as soon as you publicly post something, your right to privacy on that post is gone.

Not saying the campaign should've done it, but when you publicly post something you publicly post it. Especially signing a letter, what is the point of signing it if you don't want anyone to see it?

This just seems like more concern trolling to me.

Come on now. When you post something, nobody has the expectation of a spectacle to a much larger audience.
