Might wanna lock the thing next time, Dick. 😛
When Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington's SUV was burglarized last weekend, he got a taste of what 12,000 other Atlantans suffer each year.
On Saturday, thieves ripped off the chief's unlocked 2003 Ford Expedition while it was parked outside his home in Buckhead.
Stolen were a DVD player, 20 DVDs, a cloth bag, three sets of headphones, $10 in coins and a trailer hitch, according to a police report.
Not surprisingly, officers gave the theft careful attention, dispatching technicians to the chief's home to take photos of the SUV and dust for fingerprints.
A police spokesman acknowledged that police normally don't go out to car break-ins and usually take the information over the phone.
Spokesman Sgt. John Quigley said someone at the home on Collier Road called 911. A dispatcher recognized the name and sent an officer, who requested the technicians, Quigley said.
"I presume the zone got involved in trying to take care of the chief," Quigley said.
As of Thursday night, no arrest had been made.
