as a filmmaker, let me be the first to commend your mother.

it pains me how most people do not care, or are even against widescreen.

directors usually compose with a rectangle, it makes it 10000x easier to make nice looking frames, and when someone at a video distributor butchers our art, they take away almost 1/3 of our original intended picture D:

kthx

Some people don't like widescreen.

It's a personal preference.

I much prefer fullscreen myself.

But it's like taking a picture with your fingers covering both the right and left sides of the camera lens
Or driving your car with the ends of your windshield painted black...
But I guess someone's gotta buy the FS DVDs they keep putting out.

I've noticed in some movies that the wide screen actually cuts out stuff from the top and bottom.

Go watch the movie "get over it" (full screen and wide screen), you'll see what i mean.

That's why the term "Full Screen" is too broad. The right terms are "pan and scan" (cutting off the sides) and "full frame" (taking the top and bottom matte off of the picture to open it up).

Not only would my mom never in a million years buy a Star Wars DVD set, she hates widescreen. But I still love good ole mom. 🙂
