Here's a quote from Ken directly on the Jeopardy discussion forums about not beating the one day record
No, not really. I've said before that I didn't want to beat Brian Weikle's one-day just to beat it (an arbitrary bet just to beat it by $1, for instance). It occurred to me before this FJ that a nice round $15,000 bet would tie, but not beat, the $52,000 record. This would keep Brian with his well-deserved spot in the record books...and get Alex off my freaking back! So I went for it.
It's from this topic
My question is: What's his problem with beating it? He just say "i don't want to beat it". It does not make any sense to me. He doesn't even know Weikle. I mean that's nice that he wants Brian to keep his fame but I guarantee the next person that has a chance to beat it, WILL!
do you think that record even matters...? the guy has won almost a million dollars, and is easily the best jeopardy player on teh show in its 20 year run.
