living in teh boonies finally has its benefit :) I found a long straight county route that has minimal amount of traffic and tested my little toyota 0-60 time and 60-0 distance.

first, I used the cd player to record the time. (like when you play cd and it shows the time elapsed)
and teh time is a pathetic 10 sec. mind you, this was on a mildly moist track. :)))

then, for teh 60-0 distance I tried to use the distance between lamp posts (isn't it supposed to be 100 feet between each?) but then it was just way too inaccurate. anyway, I think I stopped at about 50 feet.

weird thing though, for the 60-0 trial, after I braked hard for first time until the tires start to skid (no ABS) the speedo drops to 30, and when I release the brakes and pump it again, the speedo jump back up to 40 then drops downward to 0. how come? and why did i smell burned clutch? I didn't down shift at all to do engine brake. ...

Just do the 0-60 on a street that has the speed limit at 50.
My 92' Corolla gets 9.7 seconds :)
My sis' 2002 V6 Solara only gets 8.3 seconds :Q

Wow, considering it takes over 7 seconds for a 2002 Solora to get to 60mph. Maybe she hit a brick wall? Lets not mention that a 1992 Corolla was somewhere in the range of a 9 second 0-60.

Nope the car is in good condition, never had any accidents that would have done harm to the drive train.
I just turned off cruiscontrol and floored it. It redlined on its own. 8.3 seconds.

Old corollas are pretty fast for what they are.

I bet if my corolla was new, and the tires were not worn out, I'd match or beat the solara, considering my corolla has 180K miles on it and the solara only has 35K miles.

your speedo "bounced" because you were beginning to lock up the tires. locking tires = lower detected speed. lock them up hard and it will show 0 MPH. then when you let up, it showed the correct speed again. BTW, there's no way you stopped from 60 MPH in 50 feet. you could always pick a spot to brake, then afterwards, note your position and use a tape measure to roughly measure how far you went. you'd probably have to roll the measure back up and do it in sections, since you can expect ~ 120 feet or so from 60 MPH.

why use your CD player? why not use a stopwatch, or the timer on your watch, or even the stopwatch function built into most cell phones? any one of those would offer more degrees of accuracy. also you wouldn't have to take your eyes off the road, which is always a plus when you have it floored at 60 MPH. ;)

Of course, it should be 0-64mph...

stupid kilometers...
It's actually 62.

yeah but when you're high all the time like dopefiend everything seems to take longer, so getting to 62 actually feels like you went all the way to 64. ;)

thanks, only if i have a tape long enough... :(
anyway, I have to use the CD player because my "new" phone actually didn't have a stopwatch feature... my old nokia did however.

keep doing it until you have flat spots on your tires and the brake rotors are bluish black with heat spots..... which is probably like twice....... sheesh

You guys need to see what happens when 10.4" rotors have to stop a 2600lb car from almost 120mph :Q

Well the cd-player has a habit of skipping if you hit a bump, and that can knock a whole second off the recorded ET - it's like a free bottle of NOS!
