I'm sitting here on my couch surfing on the wifi and another wireless network pops up. Ran net stumbler and it's a wide open D-link with no WEP, default SSID, and DHCP enabled. Must've just got it because it wasn't here the day before last. People just don't have any concept of security. And of course it's interfering with my wireless.

I already had it enabled, as well as changing the default SSID, channel, and enabling MAC address filtering. That was the first thing I did after I set mine up. :)

Doh. My bad.
I thought about doing something like net send, but I don't want to get anybody angry.

my neighbors apparently got wireless too, i have a decent connection using their internet sitting here. just wondering, can my computer's security be compromised in any way surfing on their connection? I don't plan on doing anything bad/illegal on their internet, just random surfing. if i, say, check my email or even my bank account info with this internet, any way they could find out my passwords, without being 1337 h4x0rs? just being a little paranoid.

guys, GUYS you may think youre all l33t wardrivers taking advantage of unfortunate people who probably have no idea their network is open

but believe me bad action always brings bad reaction - dont be dishonest

AND HOW DOES IT INTERFERE? - like someone said change the channel if youre concerned

Since it's unencrypted there's a risk of someone getting your info, but since it's residential I really would worry about it.

I don't really think you want to check your bank account on any wireless network. WEP isn't completly secure.

*edit* oh, and it's not even wep'ed so anyone sniffing packets could read your info. Doesn't have to be the owners.
