I've been using an MX300 (i like the 300 style more than the MX500 style) and I've been playing a lot of FPS games. I eventually wore a bald spot on my desk that looked pretty bad and was gritty as hell. So, I ordered a C4 16"by16" mousepad and stuck it directly to my desk. I also put teflon tape on my mouse. Though it flies, it isn't as slippery as I thought it would be.

However, it is slippery enough that the mouse cord actually pushes the mouse around when I let go of the mouse. It's a bitch every time I'm typing an address in IE and the mouse cursor moves away now.. no more auto complete for me.

So, I need a cordless mouse. If you have a lot of fps (preferably instigib) experience and you have used both an MX 300/500 and an MX 700, does the MX 700 track exactly as good as a 300/500 or is there a slight cordless delay? I mean.. even the slightest delay will screw me up. Also, is there a cordless MX 300-style mouse? I prefer the simple two-button, scroll wheel style over 10000 buttons.

BTW, I think the C4 is pretty much a normal sticky vinyl surface. I bet it could be bought or ordered at a crafts shop. I'm not sure, though.

I tried the MX Duo for a while, but I type too fast for the keyboard to perfectly keep up, and the mouse didn't track quite right. It was even worse when I tried gaming. The sensitivity was off and there is a slight amount of delay. No matter how much tweaking I did, the mouse never felt quite right. I'm very picky, though, so it might have just been me. :p

Actually, that is very useful for me.. I guess I'll have to wait until cordless mice get better. I am always willing to try new things, but I absolutely hate going from bad to worse. I'm super picky about electronics - I am seldom satisfied by the engineering abortions that are today's (and any day's) electronics.

If the tracking is off or slow, then I won't be as uber in insti-gib.

Have you considered one of these instead?

no thanks.. All that seems to do is hold the cord up. The problem I have is when the cord bunches and slowly starts moving the mouse after I let go of it. It looks to me like the same thing would happen if I tried that thing.

Buy an MX duo from best buy and try it. I bet you'll like it. If you don't, return it.

I moved from the MX duo to the MX Duo for bluetooth.

I notice a delay on the keyboard on the MX duo, but the mouse I couldn't tell when I changed from the MX500 to MX700.

Got used to the keyboard after a few days though.

If you have a lot of twitch in your mouse hand like I do, you'll notice the discrepancies of wireless gameplay.

keep the wireless reciever close to the pad. i used to tape my mouse wire at the edge of the desk to make sure it wasn't being pulled down.. just enough slack so i could move around without much resistence. i use the mx700 now, i don't think theres lag, atleast i don't notice. i had an mx 310 before. its certainly nothing like the old wireless mice which i have a couple of, those were horrible. if you want uber tracking the mx510 has 5.8megapixels/sec compared to the rest of the mx mice with 4.7mpix. but i hate wires...the drag is unavoidable..and that throws my aim.

the c4 pad and teflon mouse tape:) http://www.cshyde.com/Excess%20Inv%20Sale.htm i find it pretty damn slick, i gave up my ratzgs for it.

i see much less point in a wireless keyboard for most situations though, just a hassle replacing batteries. no keyboard charging station. and moving keyboard for most desks isn't necessary or ergonomic.
