... but they cost less over here. Just like houses. I guess it ain't so bad that we also make less... ah hell it still is ;)

Anyways, just for fun I was building a GTI on VW's site and came up with the following figures:

(Canada) VR6 GTI + Leather + Luxury + Cold weather: $21161 USD
(US) VR6 GTI + Leather + Luxury : $24465 USD

Not a huge difference but still amounts to about $5000 in CDN dollars. Cool :)

Wow, cool... but yeah, what about tax? That might be the catcher. Glad you were building a GTI! I just built a Passat on there a few days ago. <sigh> maybe next year. :(

tax.. hmm, I didn't think about that. That might really turn things around :)

Anyways as I've never bought a car I don't know how the tax works. Are they charged the full GST + PST in Canada? If so, that could suck :)

Probably have to tack another 7% at least (figuring that both US & Canadian sales taxes will cancel each other out so we only pay GST extra).

GST is 7%? I think PST here is 8%.. or is it the other way around? Anyways, the GTI over here will be $24454 after taxes.
A US GTI after that Cali tax will be $26483.

Not so big of a diff now... bah. And to think I can expect $20 - $30k CDN ($12 - $19 US) for a salary when I get out of college. There goes my hopes of a new car right after graduation :(

It's more than likely cheaper because it doesn't come with all the california emissions gear.
