HEElllpppp pls. no video. no post beeps

Hi,
Thanks for looking in.

Problem;

a friend's computer stopped working. no fans nothing. oldish pentium.

I put a new psu in - fans and hdd work.
LEDs on the mobo work.
It sounds like it is starting to boot, but there is no video [monitor stays flashing a little orange light to itself - cable checked+monitor checked] , no POST beeps

Ok,
Have swapped around new RAM, no difference.
Have tried different and working VGA card. no luck there either.
Took out all unnecessary bits ie cd/sound etc. no difference.

Basically,
No video, no post beeps.
Is it possible that when the last psu went, it took something with it?
That is the way I am gonna go as well!!:brokenheart::

The psu can take out numerous components, vid card, drives, mobo. It depends on what happens when it fails.

Boilerplate-01:
. Most frequent causes of failure to boot:
1- RAM, CPU or AGP video card not seated properly, or a bent pin.
2- Drive data cable on upside down or only on half the pins or shifted a pin or two (usu Floppy or Zip drives).
3- CMOS needs to be cleared (AC power must usually be disconnected or attempt to clear CMOS may fail) Unless your mobo does not use a power-off CMOS clear - check your mobo manual for specific info.

4- On some new mobos there is a CPU protection feature (esp. on Athlon/Socket A mobos) that will not allow the system to start if there is no fan (or a fan without a working speed sensor wire) connected to the fan power connector on the mobo (specifically marked "CPU Fan"). If you tried to start your machine without a fan properly connected, you have to attach a proper and working fan and clear the CMOS before it will boot.

Thanx for posting, unlike the damned poota.

RAM was in ok, as was vga card.
Cables were ok.
I took bios battery out for a few minutes.
No luck.


Have ordered new mobo and cpu -
Am looking forward [not] to installing then having arguements with windoze afterwards!!
