My parents need a new range hood and I can't seem to find one to totally meet their requirements:

undercabinet
30" range
REAR vent(this makes choices quite limited)
Dimming lights(apparently there are very few dimming options period these days)
Better CFM. I'm trying to set a min of 450. Ideally higher

For the life of me I cannot locate a rear vented hood with dimmable lights, unless I've gone brain dead. It appears that dimming is some fancy pants feature these days reserved only for the top vented hoods. Plz help.

yes, under cabinet + rear venting is difficult. You pretty much have to go for one of the larger wall/under cabinet models

I purchased my hood from them ^, and it's similar to that page. It's large, so you have to have space to work with, which isn't always possible. Most of these are reversible though--you can vent up or back depending on your needs, but these are large.

OK, dimming lights...I don't know. That sounds like a need that's just going to have to be tossed out, lol. Or, build your own? hoods are really simple things. You can by the blower from those guys, as they sell them, to your needs, get a local steel guy to fashion a simple hood, then wire your own dimming LEDs?

You might even be able to wire your own dimming LED sockets into any range hood you pick up. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

I think that may be where he ends up. I looked around a little when he posted but was unable to find a hood with all the requirements, esp. the dimming LED. 3-way LED lights, no problem. But dimming....that was the requirement that seemed to disqualify hoods that fulfilled all the other requirements.

^those are also super weak, at like 250-300 CFM for the most part. You might be able to handle steam from boiling water with those...might. :D

One of them can do 400 CFM which is...the 2nd lowest speed on my hood. Of course, proper blowers are huge though, which makes it more difficult to find what the OP wants. (he did mention a minimum of 450 CFM).

Now, if his parents are just boiling water, that's probably fine. But you can't really do any high temperature cooking and expect that your hood is doing anything at those low speeds. For me, I wouldn't consider anything with a maximum CFM that is below 750.

My mom was actually able to find something that works, potentially because it is lower end than the stuff I was looking at. It has mesh filters, and I think only pulls 400 CFM, but it dims which is apparently feature #1 to her lol.

Broan hood

Their old hood was 100-200 or so CFM so this will at least be an improvement.

If you have history of the 3-way lights I'd take a look at those. I assume you mean the brightness is just stepped, which would be okay.

I am so sorry I never got back to this thread.....my duh!

Forgot my search history, to be honest....but I did remember this one. Broan 30" in black (forgot if it's the right color, but it comes in stainless, too) w/3 spd fan, 3 level LED lights, 400 cfm.

Maybe this helps? Sorry about the lack of followup....
