Hi,

I love Heavy Metal but I'm somewhat disconnected as far as new talent is concerned.

There are 2 newer band I really like though:

Shadows Fall If you don't know this guys, give them a try, they are the next big thing.
They have 4 albums out, but I only like the last 3. Very powerful, fast and mean metal.
The kind of stuff that makes driving a little more fun

Arch Enemy do you know the person behind the vocals is a "woman" this lady is awesome. Very strong voice.

What else is new out there that deserves more credit?

Yeah, I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that those bands are "new".

I like the Probot album... it's fairly new as metal goes, although all the guest singers are ancient. :p

Probably the same way as people who claimed Metallica was a new band when they suddenly became popular mainstream with the Black Album. Simply because they didn't know them before must mean they're new. 'Have you heard that great new band, Metallica?' (...)

Here we go with the music elitists... "Dude, I have been listening to them since I saw them underground in Jacksonville, back in '86."

Who cares WHEN you heard about them. If I had just heard about Metallica today, I would still love them and would enjoy listening to their original albums.

I just recently re-discovered Pink Floyd (I knew the hits, but never bothered with the whole CDs).

Music Elitists =

 I don't think I've listened to that album more than once. Very disapointed. Just my $.05 (adjusted for inflation).

I have Shadow's Fall's album Art of Balance. I really like it even though I don't care much for the "death" metal style singing. At least they mix it up.

My comment has nothing to do with elitism. Just a fact. They are far from being new and if you really listen to metal then you have had to of heard of them.

The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd are new bands then? Just because someone hasn't heard of a band before doesn't make them new. It may be new to him/her, but not to the rest of the world.

I don't listen to country music at all, but I won't be claiming it's a totally new kind of music if I ever would start listening to it.

That screams elitism to me.
I would say I listen to quite a lot of metal (100+ albums by various artists), and I'd never heard of those two bands. It depends on what type of metal you listen to.
I bet there are many bands I could name I might consider "well known" that you might not have heard of, because they may be from a different place than you, or maybe a slightly different style of metal etc.
And I could probably only name one or two Metallica songs off the top of my head, and those are due to covers.

The only problem is the "new", since the bands are not new. But otherwise it's fine to promote small bands that one like.

Yep.

Especially if he looked into them enough to find out how many records they had produced he might have been able to find out that they had been on the scene quite a while already, and that especially Arch Enemy is very well-known among a lot of metalfans.

I don't mind people promoting bands, I don't mind them saying 'listen to this if you haven't heard them before!', but I find it annoying if someone says 'Listen to this new and awesome composer who has just released his first work! He's called Mozart!'

Trivium has put out 2 great albums in the last 2 years, better than 90% of the make believe metal that has been released in recent years.

Lordi arent bad. Someone told me about them and I listened to the three tracks on the website (in the extras bit, I think) which arent bad. Gonna buy an album when the finances allow it. I think they've been around for about 3 years.

Meh. I hate 99% of metal these days. Why does everyone think its okay to scream like they're vomiting, after gargling with gravel? That sh!t is just stupid

"Shadows Fall - The War Within" bores me for some reason. I bought it without sampling it first. what a mistake.

I like Lamb of God and Arch Enemy though.

Old Arch Enemy is better, only song I like with the new chick vocalist is "End of the Line". ShadowsFall is pretty good.

Check out Children of Bodom, they are freakin awesome.

Lamb of God would be 1000x better without the vocalists, I saw them 3 times live and just feel that the vocalist does not belong in the band. They dont mix right, plus he is not a good singer.

Stapping young lad
God Forbid is pretty good, so is Mastodon.
Trivium and Killswitch engage are also pretty good too.

I think dilinger escape plan sucks, but thats my opinion.

I am getting tired of bands not playing guitar solos and crappy singers. I want to hear a singer sing, not just scream really bad (This is not punk, its metal).

That's why I like Illdisposed, they actually play on their instruments and the singer doesn't scream, he has a really deep growl that I like.

Hell yeah! but in a bit of a different breed of metal than the previous stuff listed.
but if you like that...
2 of my favorite CDs right now are from Demons and Wizards. (Blind Guardian singer and Iced Earth side project) D&W > Blind Guardian.
