Heavenly Sword being played on the show Heroes ... in Season 1

I am watching through Heroes S1 for the first time currently.

I believe it was episode 18 (can't remember the exact #) which aired early March this past year.

The little boy and Jessica were playing a game on PS3, and it was Heavenly Sword. It also looks better than the retail game does that shipped.

Considering the game came out last month and that show aired over half a year ago, it made me come to this question yet again - why the hell is gaming in movies/shows portrayed in such a fake manner? I think the only recent movie which it was actually being played in a "real" manner was Disturbia when the kid was playing Gears of War.

So does anyone have any reasoning why they think gaming in movies/shows is portrayed in such a bs manner?

EDIT: PLEASE DONT SPOIL SEASON 1 KTHX!

I'm guessing because the actors are reacting to a video game being played on a screen instead of actually playing it themselves. Therefore, they just mash buttons and wiggle the controller around senselessly.

It probably would have taken that actress dozens of takes to get through that part of Heavenly Sword.

Same reason why 99.9% of the visibly discernible cars in Heroes are all Nissan cars.

EDIT:

"Look! Nissan Versa!"

"We even found that Nissan Versa"

"Better get back to the Nissan Versa"

Heroes easily beats Hitch in product placement.

Oh, and as to why the game looked better in Heroes. This was from a demo that was shown at trade shows back in '06 I believe. PS3 games have been notorious for looking fantastic early and then the devs start dialing down the quality of the graphics to a manageable level.

It was actually shown full screen for a few seconds.

I don't remember it looking any different from retail. I wouldn't be surprised if the colors were touched up or anything just as part of the normal post-production process for the show.

the final game has craploads of tearing issues as well as framerate issues.

the clips they showed on Heroes were the parts from the demo that we got to play before it was released. there were no signs of tearing/framerate issues in the Heroes episode however in the demo it's a completely different story.

oh i see, i dont really notice those things unless it affects gameplay. timing/aiming, stuff like that. so mostly FPS.

yes, most PS3 owners don't notice flaws in their games and think they are all flawless.

😛

I never had a single issue with tearing in the demo. In fact, that episode of Heroes was about as accurate as you could get to a portrayal of the game being played in a show.

then you don't know what tearing is.

or maybe you weren't playing in HD.

i was playing in 720p and it had unacceptable amounts of tearing. it reminded me of Saints Row on xbox360.

For a game like heavenly sword I imagine I pay more attention to the eyecandy then I do to the framerate and smoothness. I've actually never really been bothered by vsync tearing i actually used to prefer turning off vsync so i could get higher framerates. Like I said it didnt effect gameplay so i didnt notice, but I know im not oblivious to such things because in FPS games framerate is a big issue for me.

i just do not see how you could possibly enjoy the "eye candy" when there are such terrible tearing/framerate issues. it completely takes away from the eye candy.

how tearrible 😛 is the tearing? for instance, if it was like this, I would have noticed. I think since the environment/background in heavenly sword does not move much I didnt notice any tearing because i would have had to been looking very closely at a certain characters movement? I tried to find some screenshots on google but couldnt find any or maybe I cant even notice it in any of the screenshots. also is it like every frame or something? if it occurs very sparsley I wont care. either way, I honestly did not notice the tearing. framerate dips at times but i used sound for countering and used a lot of combos that you were invuln while doing so it didnt bother my ability to play or anything.

On the new TV show Chuck they are playing Xbox 360 all the time. I can't remember all of the games, but I know one episode they were playing Halo 3.

It did not surprise me when I googled that and saw it was on NBC. NBC has become a product placement WHORE. Studio 60 and 30 Rock BOTH made fun of product placement on NBC in the same week last year - but making fun of it was just a way to get the product placement into those two shows. They were so blatant about it. It was pretty ironic. I know we'll be seeing a lot more of this with the increased popularity of DVRs. It doesn't bother me though, it's fine as long as it fits into the show. And it can even add to the humor of a show, like with Chili's on The Office.

playing the xbox 360/halo3 fits in VERY well in Chuck 😛

but definitely the worst show for product placement (well, the one that annoys me the most) is heroes and Nissan.

Like when her dad gave her the Nissan Rogue (or whatever it's called) and said she could have it. She says: "YOUR GIVING ME THE ROGUE!?" I don't know, it just didn't sound right.
