Question Heatsinks make WD_Black SN750 NVMe SSDs cost MORE THAN DOUBLE? ($70 for heatsink) (Now only ~$20 more for heatsink)

Edit: Not to mention, many (most X570) mobos, have NVMe SSD "thermal armor" metal covers, that may not play well with pre-attached mfg NVMe heatsinks.

It should be noted that I have no ill will towards WD, I'm a fan of WD HDDs, they last nearly forever, especially the WD Black HDD models.

Just questioning the value proposition of paying an extra, pretty-much $70, for a slice of machined aluminum (presumably?), when some companies like Sabrent and Adata include them more-or-less for no added cost difference.

Edit: It should also be noted, that since my initial posting, they've added a $10 off promo code to the $149.99 500GB WD_Black SN750 w/heatsink, bringing the price down to mearly basically but one penny more expensive than double the price of the same drive w/o heatsink. Oooh. Such value from WD.

Edit: Honestly though, also, the $69.99 price for the 500GB NVMe model, seems like sort of "in the ball-park" for a decently-valued drive, I might even recommend that one.

My guess is they will likely be announcing a new drive, and were moving some excess inventory.

They really had some solid pricing, but I didn't need any more storage.

That's kinda what I've understood, too. That sale was nice, tho. 1TB for $116...even if it becomes EOL and gets replaced this year, still a great price for a decently performing drive.

Even WD's site has that ludicrous pricing.....thank goodness one can purchase a separate heatsink that should work equally as well as WD's.....for $10-$20 (EKWB is $15, Silverstone is $17, for instance.)

Even better, try some cheap ebay heatsink for a dollar and change; you will need thermal pads, again for a dollar or so. My solution for an intel 660p I have.
Unless your are transferring files all the time, you shouldn't worry too much about the heat as it takes some time to build up.

WD does not recommend removing the heatsink. Their fit testing list is pretty old, predating the release of any x570 motherboards. So YMMV for fitment with newer motherboards.

Wonder what the performance differences are between various mobo ssd heatsinks vs. ones like WD have vs. aftermarket. I'm sure in most cases the beefier ones are better overall I just wonder if it matters much.

yea shows 95 and 75. 20 seems about right for heatsink. SOmetimes when places have low stock or no stock they raise the prices, i see it ALL the time. Sure we will sell for 150 if you really want it but its out of stock so it will be a hassle. now that its back in stock 95$.

I will say, that's a lot more reasonable pricing.
