When you do find one post the temps here cause a friend of mine has the same CPU and it is very close to overheating all of the time.

BTW what temp do you get with the silenttower? and what fan do you have on it?

Scythe Ninja, Noctua nu-12 or xp/si-120 are the top of my list. When the Tr ultra 120 comes out the scythe and noctua should have some good competition.

If you're not going to be overclocking (and it doesnt seem like you will be, since you have an Intel D875 board), then the Freezer 4 is an excellent choice. No need to spend extra for the Scythe Ninja or Xp-120, etc.

My parents have nearly the same setup that you do (Pentium 4 3.0GHz C Northwood, 2 GB Kingston DDR400, D875PBZ motherboard), and after I installed a Freezer 4 in their system their idle temperatures went down to 31C. Load temperatures after 5 hours of running Prime95 did not ever exceed 51C. Also, these temps were with the heatsink undervolted to run at 1450RPM versus the stock 2200RPM, so if you did not mind a little bit of noise, then certainly you would get the same or lower temps. Granted, the Northwood core is a bit cooler than an equivalent Prescott core, but the difference should not be all that much, since the CPUs are the same clock speed. Also, if you do get a Freezer 4, make sure you apply the MX-1 thermal paste that comes with it; that stuff is 1 or 2 C better than Arctic Silver 5 even without burn-in; just put a little bit on and spread it by putting on the heatsink and slightly twisting.

Uh...put the MX-1 on the CPU, put the heatsink base onto the CPU, twist it around and then clip it.
