I have had 2 Athlons now........a 1gig T-Bird...it ran a 40-47 degree average temp under load.......with a antique Goldwin FOP 31 heatsink and 4600 fan & Artic Silver, then i purchased a Delta 6800 and a few degree drop was achieved. I have read the Artic Silver instructions and between the Gum Pad or Artic Silver i see no noticable change in CPU temp. Now i got a 1700XP chip, running a Coolmaster DP5 and 4900 fan......temps averaged from 44 to 56 under load. I thought that was not good. So i just installed a new all copper Thermalright SK6 with fan running at 7800 rpms. geez its 55 degrees right now. This heatsink was rated VERY HIGH!!!!! running other chips of all sizes from a 900MHz at 29-34 to a 1.2 gig at 31-36.........What Gives....any one got any answers for me. I'm gonna install the same heatsink on the 1 gig T-Bird with the Gelevt pad and see what i get. Yes i was advised to have fan blowing down on sink..........temp showed a little improvement on my 1 gig when i did that. Why can't i get the temps down there? I run 2 case fans........runs warmer with the side door *on* the Antec case. These are Bio's and Hardware Monitor & Antec Probe temps......all matching temps in Bios & HM and Probe. I have read many reviews on sinks and the SK6 was a top performer besides the new 50-70 dollar sinks. Help.:disgust:
