Heatsink Recommendation to replace stock Phenom II 940

I'm looking to replace a relative's stock heatsink for his Phenom II 940. Seems to be overheating in this summer time. Idles at ~45C but any activity like playing videos can spike it up to 60-65 degrees from 45 very quickly. I already tried replacing the thermal paste but the temperatures were the same. Case only also has one fan, but not sure that would cause such crappy cooling?

Any recommendations on a heatsink replacement? Looking for something ideally around same size as the stock, as the case isn't that large. Performance wise just looking for something around an intel stock heatsink. Thanks.

You don't have to have the biggest cooler to get the best or equal performance.

But starting at the base of the acceptably good performers, it's likely the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO would be a good fit for the fitting aspect. You can make them more effective with a $5 item made by ThermalRight -- a rubber accordion duct (to the rear exhaust fan.)

Some folks tout a formidable-looking single-tower cooler named the Mugen. It's among the good ones, but not the best.

I've seen a Phanteks model -- was it a double tower? -- which had some darn decent benchmarks.

I'll top it all off to say my EVGA ACX aka "SuperClock" heatpipe cooler, which is the larger of two models I find at Newegg, will outperform a Noctua NH-D14 by 6C degrees at just short of 140W or 45W higher than stock TDP.

This is a couple to few better C degrees than a stock installation of an H110 AiO -- for one of our most commonly cited stress programs. But it could be possible to make similar "mods" to the H110, maybe replace the fans, so that its performance could be improved a few degrees.

And any shortfall in any of the other coolers can be made up by a "duct-kloodge" by maybe 5C degrees.

I'm sure some other members will volunteer information on these and other coolers.
