Heatsink Push-Pins?

I removed my motherboard's stock NB heatsink when I got it so I could put a Thermalright HR-05 on. Well, the HR-05 blocks the use of my top PCIe 1x slot and I'd like to use it so I have to put the stock NB heatsink back on. Only problem is that I need new push-pins to install it. I had to cut the original push-pins so I could remove the stock NB heatsink.

Anyone know where I can get push-pins for my NB heatsink? I've called Asus and they don't have any.

None of those will work. They're too thick. They look like CPU heatsink push-pins. Push-pins for NB heatsinks are much thinner and usually have springs on them.

The hr-05 should only block the use of that slot if it's mounted longitutally to the motherboard(ie | ) if you were to rotate it ninety degrees so it's mounted longitudonally -- the slot should be in full access. Otherwise you'll have to post in the WTB forum and hope someone has spares. sorry. I've never run accross them in stock, anywhere. You should be able to rig one yourself simillarly to how water cooling blocks are installed by gettins some small diameter but fairly long bolts and bolting it in with the bolts through from the backside, with springs to even out pressure on the chipset.

The motherboard is an Asus P5E-VM HDMI. The CPU heatsink I'm using is a SilverStone NT06 Lite. I had to get a HR-05 SLI because the regular HR-05 would be in the way / is too tall to fit under the NT06 Lite. One side of the NT06 Lite hovers over the area where the NB heatsink is.

There's only one way to put the HR-05 SLI in my system. Three of the ways it can be positioned will be in the way of the NT06 Lite, the fourth way (the only way it can be positioned), it blocks use of the PCIe 1x slot of anything, but short cards like the common PCIe 1x USB for firewire card.

No, but, they're probably the same size pins as the ones used on the Abit IP35-Pro heatpipe. The pins' replacements would be #4-40 about a 1/2" long bolts. I used nylon hardware from Small Parts to replace the pins and remount my Abit heatpipe.

Good Luck!

With the original push-pins, they had the heads that compress when pushed through the mounting hole then expand again once through the hole and that's how they stayed mounted. How did you get the nylon bolts / screws to stay like that?

I don't suppose you could turn the NT-06 180 degrees to put the heatpipes over by the NB so you could turn the HR05 90 degrees and get it out of the way?
