I'm putting a Zalman 7000A on an AMD 3200+ 90nm processor on an ASUS A8V Deluxe board.

Is anyone familiar with this type setup?
The heatsink doesn't lock down on the board ... it's too loose.

There is no backplate ... and the one that came with the Zalman doesn't fit.

I don't think it's the same setup as the 754 boards.

Here's a pic of the way the Processor area looks on my Motherboard ...

Board

It's got a black square plastic housing around the CPU area ... if I set the Heatsink directly on that, and then screw it down, it's too loose, the housing is too high and doesn't let the arms on the heatsink lock down tight enough.

And there's no place to use the Backplate that came with the Zalman, since there's no place to screw the backplate onto.

Take off the black frame and then screw the Zalman heatsink directly onto the motherboard. Did you read the instructions that came with the Zalman?

HAHA I had the SAME EXACT THING.

Remove the black frame. Mine had a backplate on the back of the mobo which I had to remove, if yours doesn't, good. Add your backplate, the standoff screws into it through the mobo, (remember to put the cardboard washers down, i also used the extras in installing my motherboard), screw down your zalman, and you're good to go.

Heh, I went and got some sleep and when I woke up and read your replies, for some reason it just hit me ...
It should be working just fine now.
Thanks ... I don't know how, but a little sleep and what you said did the trick.
Thanks again. :)
