heatsink glued to CPU???

This doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

I contacted buimanz on eBay about the 3700+ he was selling and he told me the CPU is stuck to the heatsink. Well, how in the world would I be able to install it if the lever next to the CPU has to be raised? Even if I could take off the heat spreader, would the heatsink fit correctly?

Anyway, the reason why I looked at that is because I might sell everything before I move and build a similar setup but use a 3700+ instead of a 3400+.

But I'm also wondering if this is the result of AMD's decision to end OEM processor sales. I mean, this is rediculous. Would they actually glue a heatsink to the CPU to make avoid breaking the rules?

I even noticed a seller named geekdeal who has processors with heatsinks as well. This seems very bizarre to me.

It def looks like a thermal pad/glue problem. Just slowly rotate the HS/fan until it pops out and that should help.

Of course, maybe these chips aren't what they are being advertised as, and one way of disguising them is to cover the chip markings.

wouldnt CPU-z or a similar program uncover that rather easily?

You should read the message by a guy on hardforum who says he can't really identify what appears to be a socket 939 Athlon 3400+.

I saw this eBay seller already had some feedback for one of the processors that he's selling (3400+). But, I can't wait to read the messages in the following days. He has a number of auctions ending in the next few days.
