I prefer the socket 939 coolers with 4 pin fan connectors, so that the motherboard can control fan speed in association with "cool & quiet".

QFT, I think the Zalmans are the best, IMO.

I got a 939 board going. LOVE my 9700. Used the fan mate controller, it's whispery quiet and keeps the 180 nice and cool.

I started a thread on this about a month back. Link here.

I went with a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro with Arctic Cooling MX2 thermal paste, and that worked wonders for my setup. Lowered the temps by 40C at load. (Although my overuse of thermalpaste when I reinstalled the Zalman on my new X2 processor probably helped make the temps so unbearably high.)
