I just wanted to know what the best heatsink would be for the Amd 64 3000+ chip I tried overclocking with the stock heatsink. It was gettin close to 55-60 degrees so I turned it down to 2.11 ghz (9.5x222) it's at about 43 degrees and when at full load it's at about 52-54 degrees.

If you want it also to be quiet, try the Thermaltake Silent Boost K8.

My XP-90 just arrived today... haven't done a damn thing with it yet, it's just sitting on my desk right now. But it gets mega style points, it looks kinda like a scale model of a V-8 engine :D

The XP-90 doesn't come with a fan, so you're looking at ~$50 for a fully decked out one. If you really need to save money check into the Zalman or some of the others mentioned above... but if you wanna bite the bullet and spend that extra cash, the XP-90 has been getting very good reviews. I got mine with a Panaflo 92mm 57 CFM, 35 dBA fan. It's a little loud, but not ridiculous.

well, there's already multiple threads on this very question.. the search feature actually does work...

at any rate, i extremely happy with my zalman. it's quiet, and cools very well. running 240 fsb and 39c idle 46c load.

check out this review for more info.

Athlon 64 mb's are serious liars. I run water and saw 65C.. then I changed bios and saw -24C.

Tip touch HS if it's around room temp +-5C your cool.

Besides who cares about temps? Is it stable should be your only concern *then* check temps if not. I bet your running a cool 35C as A64's are the norm with thier low TDP/

Well, if it's shuttin off at 60 because you set iit in the bios to shut down at 60, you may want to disable that feature before you trust you Asus temp monitor.

ah well ok but for these processors what is normal operating temperatures. I thought that 60 degrees would be too high for it

well i went looking through the bios and there is nothing to do with shutting it off at a certain temp. maybe my ram or something can't handle the overclock...would that be it? Anyone here know that with my current specs compared to 2.22 ghz with 444 ram and 888 hypertransport (old specs). Is this faster cause my hypertransport has dropped quite a but..also what's a program that checks the agp bus speed?

thanks

Yeah, if that temp is correct, I would be looking for something else as well. I am looking to buy an XP3000 shortly, and am also looking for a good HSF. Probably won't be overclocking the chip as much as I will the
FSB, if the motherboard I choose it willing. How noisy is the stock HSF? Might want to try removing the stock thermal material and replacing it with some AS before shelling out bucks for a new heatsink.
