heatsink/fan question...

aight, i am putting together a P2350 machine, on a motherboard that came out of an Dell V350. from the fan, there are 2 connectors, one is a two prong female connector, and the other is a three prong female connector. this motherboard has two fan connectors. one is labeled FAN1, and the other labeled FAN2. these both have 3 prongs. this is what i have done: i connected the 3 prong connector to the FAN1 slot, but cannot find anyplace to plug in the three pronged connector. when i plug in the power supply, the fan twitches for a second and stops, with no further movement. this is the first heat sink fan combo that i have worked with, so i am not experienced with it. i need a response ASAP, and thank you

Is the two prong connector the size of a power supply connector, like you'd use with a hard drive? The fan only needs one power connector to run. Your fan may have two different types so that you can use it with whichever one your system has. One is called a Molex connector, which is what hard drives, CDROM's, etc use. The other is a motherboard connector, which has RPM sensing built in so that you can monitor the fan speed (with software, dependent on the motherboard).

When you plug in an ATX power supply, you usually get a brief burst of power, which causes the CPU fan to twitch. However until you actually turn the system power on, it won't continue to spin. (You should have the power supply hard switch turned off when you're working on the computer and when you plug in or unplug the power supply cord.)
