Heatsink Fan Orientation

I just installed my first non-stock heatsink (Thermalright XP-120). The first fan that I purchased would not work with the clips supplied in the Thermalright box (these things look kinda flimsy?). So, I got a new fan and am now ready to attach. So, the question is do I point the fan to blow air on the heatsink/CPU? Or do I point it to pull air away?

it should blow onto the CPU so that all the surrounding components get sufficient cooling

Blow the air down, and don't worry about the clips - they hold the fans on just fine.

Thaks to all that replied. Especially for the link to the article that explains how to modify the closed-end fan.
