heatsink/fan for non OC?

I'd like to get an AthlonXP 3200+, but I'm not really interested in overclocking. The OEM chips are running around $167~$170, and the retail box (includes hsf) runs around $200. Should I just get the retail box, or is there a hsf that's better than what AMD bundles with the retail box, that I could get for $30 or less? If so, any suggestions?

Thanks,
-KC

Unless you have identified a specific HS/Fan that you are looking to use an you know that it will meet AMD's thermal requiremetns, it is generally better to stick with the manufacturers reccomended combination. At the very least it has been tested and approved by AMD and if something were to go wrong then you could go back to AMD. The other thing the boxed processor gets you is the warranty.

The 3 yr warranty is worth the retail box cost.

Plus, I think I read someplace that Quiet and Cool only works with the stock HS/fan, I could be wrong about that though

What's Quiet and Cool?

I have the stock HSF for my current processor (XP 2100) and it seemed pretty cheap. I figured there ought to be a better one out there for the cost difference, but maybe not?

Oh well, at least they (the stock hsf's) work!

He said XP 3200...not A64. And no having the stock HSF w/ Cool N' Quiet makes no difference.

For the OP...I would go with a Zalman 7000ALCU. It's cheap, very quiet, and would still allow you to OC if you ever decided to.

Also, I personally would not buy the 3200+. Save some money, and buy a Mobile Barton 2400 35+ watter for around $80. Every single one I've had has done 2.2-2.4 ghz on stock voltage for the desktop chips (1.65 volts). They are much cheaper as well. Just set the multi to 11x and your fsb to 200 and there's your 3200+ for a lot less money.
