Help,
I'm finally down to my last item to purchase, a heatsink/fan. Willing to spend $30 or so. That's with tax and shipping and after any rebates.
I have an e2180, 4 memory sticks, and a cheap 6200LE graphics card.
My case is an Antec SLK1600 with the new power supply (480 watts) at the top of the case.
What heatsink/fan would you recommend? Some I've looked at, I don't think it will fit my case. I thought I read somewhere that some would not fit in a case with the PS at the top.

I will be forced to overclock (3GHz or less) since I didn't buy the retail e2180.
Want cooling, but also would like it to be quiet.
Looked at Frostytech site's top heatsinks and Tom's Hardware, TH ran everything down below whale BM. Now I'm totally confused. Don't want to lap(?) or be surprised and find out I have to buy thermal grease and a fan.

Have looked at Scythes and Xigmatek and Zerotherm.

Thanks

That Zerotherm BTF95 is fan-less so you might wanna take a look at their BTF90 instead. Same as the BTF80 except the fins are copper on the 90 vs. aluminum on the 80. Very easy heatsink to install, major kudos for its spring-loaded mounting screws !

As for an idea of its size, upon installation it's highest point (top of heat pipes) measures approx. 5.5 inches up from the top surface of the motherboard.

Supposedly got good reviews.
I don't think it'd have any trouble fitting in that case.

That's the one I'm looking at. I finally realized I'll just email Antec and see if they know the answer. This worried me in the newegg reviews: However, it is a long cooler and I can't close my mid tower case now. LOL, I don't want that to be me!

Thanks

I checked the dimensions of it vs. a Tuniq Tower (what I have in my P18x right now).
It seems the Xigmatek is 159mm vs 155mm for the TT. I know just by eyeballing my case w/the side cover off, it appears the TT is at the edge.

If you have the case, measure it. 159mm = 6.259"

If the HDT-S1283 won't fit you could get the S9283 or 9264, both perform quite well and should easily get you to the 3ghz mark given adequate case airflow and ambient temps below 30C.
