actually im not planning on buying one. i already have one with my current AMD XP 1700+ (palomino core).

im thinking of buying a 2400+ mobile from newegg and then O/C it to 3200 levels. Is my pal 6045L going to be sufficient? I'd have to change the fan anyway since the fan i have right now is dying.

EDIT: yes... 6035 :p

It's a 6035, right? Or did you mean 8045? I would think the 6035 will be enough to do what you want, as long as it has reasonable fannage (say, 25cfm or more). If you don't mind noise, then obviously a 38cfm Delta howler will get the job done :D

6035... yes :)

the problem with this heatsink is that a lot of dust accumulates within the heatsink. before i cleaned it out my CPU would run at 50C and afterwards it drops down to 40!

I was hoping to find a Thermalright SLK-800A for near $20 but no dice yet :p However, the decent Taisol 760-series for $10... that's not bad, and it's less apt to collect dust, I'd expect. Considering it comes with a fan and you need a fan one way or the other... yeah. Hope that's some help. I don't know what the Arctic Cooling units are like.

the Taisol 760CGK is a great heatsink if you can find one of those for $10 I would definitely get it. IMHO it would easily provide enough cooling w/ a decent fan to reach 3200+ levels w/ a mobile 2400+. Hell I reached 3200+ speeds w/ a 2100+ that I just got using the stock HSF that came w/ my 2500+ barton!

Since the 2400+M runs at a lower voltage than your 1700 it should be no problem.
I'm running mine on a Zalman 92mm flower running at 8 volts. Nice, cool, and above all Quiet.
Not stressing it though , just running it at 200 X 10.

airflow is not a problem at all with my case (one of those antec SX1030s), i just bought a thermaltake 480w slient power supply so i figured that'd be enough.

dammit, newegg charges 4 dollars shipping on a 10 bucks heatsink (the speeze one my friend recommended). i'll just get it at fry's tomorrow :)
