Hello,

I bought a new heatsink. The back bracket was glued to the mobo so I was stuck with that, but it still looks like the aftermarket clips line up. I place the screws behind the mobo, but when I put the mobo back into the case it seemed like the 4 screws touch the case. Will it short out the mobo, or cause other permanent damage?

What mobo and CPU cooler are we talking about here?

Typically, the mobo heatsink stays, the CPU cooler backplate goes over that...

...and with CoolerMaster 212+ CPU cooler backplate in place.

(note, those are not the same computers, but they show the differences.)

MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine) and Xigmatek Loki SD963 cooler. I'm looking at the second picture with the 4 screws on the bracket. On mine the screws don't screw all the way down. Thread maybe..I dont' know so there's a 6mm gap between the screwhead and the mobo. So when I placed the motherboard back into the case the screws may be touching. I'm not for certain. I put electric tapes on the head just in case. Thought it might be the right thing to do. Currently it's working now as I'm typing on here..
