Heatpipe question

I understand the physics behind heatpipes, however what occured to me the other day as I was shopping for a better HS for my E6400 is that I have a tower, which means the HS "lays down" - thus the pipes are horizontal, not vertical. Doesn't this negate much of the advantage? Or am I missing something obvious (very possible)?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure I understand, though. Is there any online resource anyone could recommend me to read? I've websearched a bit, but can't find anything that makes it clear to me.

I mean, the whole theory behind heatpipes is that heat rises, right?

It's more like "denser stuff sinks", but wicks allow for capillary action to overcome gravity.
