heatpipe cooling for chipsets that are underneath the videocard now available

Didn't even notice the price when I last posted. My Cooler Master Blue Ice 2 NB cooler (with heatpipes) cost me 19 bux or so. It's not cheap if you really want a good, quiet NB cooler.

what about the Zalman passive for about $6, i know it doesn't have heatpipes, but as long as your chipset isn't overmodded it should work great

You're not gonna get the Zalman on the DFI board with videocard in the way.

Actually you can, but it requires some extreme modding of the Zalman including clipped/bending pins.

even then, without proper airflow that heatsink will become overheated.

Aye, I bought a Zalman passive cooler, bent it all out of the way, and it still heated up to, well, overheating. I hung a fan in my case right beside it, (get a quiet one) and now it stays around 28 C.

it kind of makes me wonder how the gigabyte SLI motherboard NB doesnt overheat, its just a small fanless heatsink.

But it has more surface area than the Zalman. The Zalman relies on the height of the pins and airflow to cool it off. The Gigabyte just uses simple math to cool it off adequitly.

i havent actually installed it, just hooked it up to the motherboard header. my mobo im going to use it on come thursday. there are alot of pics on the dfi-street forums though.

does anyone know if this item in the OP will work with the DFI lanpart UT NF-4 Ultra-D and the 2 slot cooling X1900XT?
