So, for the last several years, we've just been using the woodstove for heat, but it doesen't really work very well, mostly because the woodstove we have sucks. The bedrooms/bathroom stay cold, it only heats the living room.

So we decided to spend a little more on heating oil instead of getting firewood.

Is there anything that is going to need to be done after sitting for so long without even being turned on? If there was heating oil left in the line, could it have gelled or anything? Will the tank need to be flushed due to condensation?

What about the ducting? I imagine it is going to blow some pretty nasty sh!t out the first time it's turned on... eww.

Advice appreciated. :)

well, what would you like me to say? The inspection and possible maintenance are likely beyond the layperson's level. Spend a few bucks and have it looked at. I don't know much about oil-fired systems and boilers, but I know combustion chambers can develop holes which can lead to carbon monoxide leaks and things such as spider webs blocking gas jets on burners can lead to problems.

I guess... I was just mainly looking for some pointers, so I know what's likely to be damaged and can try and avoid being taken for a ride etc...
