Are heat spreaders on PC2700 DDR ram necessary for a non-overclocked system? I was thinking that with the higher bus speed comes a higher physical temperature. But are they necessary?

thanks,

Nopes, they are built to specs and not heatspreader is needed. Unless you up the voltage on those sticks, I don't see how the heat will kill the RAM. 🙂

sometimes it depends on the voltage being supplied to them
when you are overclocking sometimes you give voltage up to like 2.9-3.0v , so at that point you might need them, but at stock everything no
