Heat sensor difference

I just got my new Digital Doc 5. I have 2 type of heat sensor: flat or bulb. Is there a diff. between readings or quality? or is it just a diff form of the same sensor?
 
The flat sensor is ment for going between HS`s. Like next to a CPUs core or a GPU/VPUs core. The bulb ones are general use.
