Heat of 1.2Mhz PIII vs. 1.2Mhz Celeron?

These two chips run at the same speed, have the same vcore and cache. Intel rates the same steppings of both at 29.9W. This suggests that they should both put off the same heat. Is there any reason to believe that the higher FSB of the PIII would lead to it running warmer than the Celeron? More generally, holding the basic chip constant, is heat dissipation simply a function of frequency?

Yes, heat output should be equal. They are identical cpu's, if you haven't bought one yet just get the 1.1a Celeron and put it on a 133MHz fsb for 1466MHz.

the p3 has 512k of lvl 2 cache versus 256, so in theory it should be warmer.

Ohhh, 1.2Mhz. I bet those things are blazing fast

well a 1.1A celeron @ 1.466 is a match for a p4(256)@2.0ghz so they arent that bad

I have an Intel mobo, so o/c is not possible.

The PIII 1.2 has only 256K of cache, the same amount as the Tualatin Celerons.

Only the Server (-S) versions of the PIII have 512k of cache. These are offered at 1.13Ghz, 1.26Ghz and 1.4Ghz.

The PIII 1.20Ghz is the non-server version and comes with only 256k of L2. The 1.26Ghz is the server version that has 512k of cache.
