Heat ! need advice for temporary cooling

hi 🙂

were having a heatwave in vancouver the last few days and my apartment has been high 80's -low 90's with fans blasting everywhere 🙁 (sweating to death).

anyway my computer is feeling the heat and although my cpu is still well within the good temp area though rising i think my video card (9700pro) is getting hot since i am hardlocking in games (shadowbane) where when it is cooler i normally dont.

i have a thermaltake xaser II case (temp battery died so cant read case temp) so have alot of fans blowing.

anyway i need some advice... when it gets hot should i pop open the side of the case for more airflow? i just ordered a new MB and other stuff so cant afford any real cooling atm. so how do i keep it cool during a heatspell?

any help would be appreciated 🙂

p.s.
Any ideas for future cooling would also be appreciated, i am looking into either replacing the fan on the 9700 (though hesistant becuase of warranty) or buying one of those fans that you put in a pci slot that is supposed to help cooling though i dont know if they are any good. any low budget ideas would be welcome 🙂

thanks 🙂

IIWY, I'd try taking off the side panel and positioning something like an 18-inch fan a foot or two from the case.

If you are not overclocking, it shouldn't really be an issue. Don't open the case unless you have really poor airflow. The cases are designed to allow a jetstream effect with the power supply causing negative pressure and the cooler air on the outside of the case being sucked in. If you do, then remember that cooling system design is an exact science, but amateur PC cooling usually isn't. There's no point spending days to get maximum efficiency out of a cooling system when you can easily just provide a lot more cooling than the system needs (ie, with a box fan ....)
