i have the crt case (19") gutted and the mobo tray installed and welded up a steel frame for other components, but anyway, i want to put a lcd screen on the front to give the impression that its just a monitor. i dont have any lcd's in my house, but i was wondering if they put off much in the way of heat out their backsides...or if ineed to keep the area behind it very ventilated.

You will need to allow for allot of heat!!! The ones i have seen make almost as much heat as a comperable CRT = VERY HOT!! My 32 LCD puts off as much heat as my 20 CRT You may be able to find some that are not so hot but you will have to shop arround. I had this idea that when my 20 CRT dies then maby LCD's will be cheep enough to do the same. Go for it i think it would make a great mod.

LCDs can be very warm without ventilation... you'll need to plan how to direct that heat away from your other components.
