heat concerns

I have just upgraded my pc pretty much all the way around, and it runs great - but it runs very hot under load, not overclocked at all. stock speed/voltage, even has a high idle temp.

Realtemp reads high 80s low 90s core temp under load, low 60s at idle.

Coretemp reads mid 60s idle and high 90s under load, 95-99.

I have read that the e8500s give bad readings, but i have to believe its running hot getting these readings from both of these progs.

my system specs are :

evga 780i ftw
e8500 wolfdale @ 3.13
4gb corsair xms2 1066 ddr2
8800 gtx 768mb
thermaltake armor mx vh8000

any ideas, or opinions on the heat my system is producing ?

edit : It has only crashed once since ive been playing with it - games run great, just a heat concern.

First and foremost, Welcome to the forums! :)

Sounds like a HS problem, so with that being said, What HS are you currently using? If a Stock, You might not have it seated properly ( push pins ). Your temps at load shouldn't be any where near those temps you are reporting. If not stock or push pin application, I would go back and reseat your sink with the proper TIM application. You must make sure the pins are all the way into the motherboard for it to be seated correctly.

I'd say the same thing, you should be able to check this, because the chip should be throttling itself, where it'll drop to the 6x multiplier while loaded. You'll see this in CPU-Z.

You can boot and idle. when you put it under load (use superpi or something to load only one core) it'll bump itself to 9.5x, then hit the thermal throttle limit, and drop back down to 6x.

It's very likely that you didn't get the pins in all the way on the heatsink.

thank you so much, that was indeed the problem. running at a consistent 61 under load now, much better. ;)

what kind of heatsink you are using on your 8500 if you don't mind me asking?

I ended up gettin a blue screen mid game after playing for a couple hours - after reseating my heatsink - couldnt tell what it said as far as error reports, it did a physical memory dump and reset right away. loaded back up and didnt have a prob the rest of the night.

I am using the stock fan that the 8500 came with.

If you're so inclined- get an aftermarket cooler. You'll have better temperatures, typically w/ less noise. I'd suggest a bolt-through design. It's a bit of a pain having to remove the board to install, but you know you're not getting problems from pins.
