How hot is too hot for a processor? My AMD 1800+ runs constantly at about 55 degrees C. Is that too hot? Where should it be? And at what heat level should I be worried?

I was replying to this while it was moved from Off Topic so my response was lost. As I was going to say earlier and that ElFenix has pointed out 55 for an AMD is not going to fry your chip. Once you get up into the 70C range then you should get worried. AMD always runs hot.
A lot of people will try to convince you that you're in imminent danger but that's not true.

That's the boat I was in, my diode is measured at 53-54' C idle, and the cpu itself is usually 46-50' C idle. When under laod my diode gets to 60-62' C, and the cpu gets to about 55-57'C. I've got a 2800+ Barton, with an Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2M installed using silicon paste. The thing that bummed me out tho is that I wanted to overclock, but I don't think that would be in my best interests :(

Is the diode supposed to be a lot hotter?

I tend to get nervous at high 50's-low 60's.
