I liked the first HoI, loved the second, and can't wait for the third installment. Paradox software is amazing (HoI and Europa Universalis franchises) and they have been making better and better games.

Anyone else looking forward to this (tentative) August release?

I am really looking forward to this release.

Have had many great campaigns in HOI2. Right now the German empire extends from Iceland to the Urals to the Thailand border in India to the middle of Africa. The Remnants of the Soviet Union are about to be finished off starting May 1st 1944.

The only major players left are the United States and Japan and a minor in the Soviets.

Hearts of Iron 2 still sits unopened on my desk. I get intimidated thinking about it.

One of these days I'll have the time to try it and if I like it I'll definitely try the next one.

Not sure, rather displeased with the route paradox is going with some of the recent methods with regard to the consumer and I'm less inclined to spend more money in that direction.

HOI 2 is a GREAT game. Open the box, install the game, and play as Germany. It's a great way to get into the game. You don't need to worry about manpower or resources (outside of fuel) and you get to beat the piss out of the Russians.

HOI 3 should be stunning. I can't wait!

Let me know what you guys think... I saw the trailer for HOI3 on Steam, and it was a very weak trailer (if HOI3 is a good game, you wouldn't be able to tell because the trailer showed so very little), so I disregarded it. Haven't played any of the previous HOI games.

Some of the impovements that I am aware of are as follows:

-smaller territories (both land and sea)
-more terrain limitations for troop and transport movements
-more flexible troop integration and dividing abilities
-less micro-management of science and espionage efforts

The trailer didn't look too great, but generally trailers for these kinds of games are either all CG (and no game-play) or they are pretty boring. It is hard to capture the game in a short (presumably exciting) trailer.

I definitely have high hopes for the game, and these types of games really exemplify the strengths of PC gaming.

Found out back in Feb that they were working on it, been following the Dev Diary since then. Looks good and hope it releases on time, played HoI 1, HoI2, HoIDD and the Armageddon booster. It's also nice that they are allowing it to be more flexibility to mod it.

I love HOI2 but I waste so much industry building awesome super dreadnoughts that always end up being destroyed by carriers or land based planes. I love my battleships soo much.

Use escort carriers for protection of your battleships and if you want to be really brutal, make sure the screens, CL or DD, have the same range as your BB. Then you'll get all of them firing on carriers and their escorts. Just make sure you use the right doctrine too, the one England uses.

Yep, definitely looking out for this one. It's just too bad I didn't get into beta this time around - I was heavily involved with the closed beta for HoI2 so I thought they'd like to have me back :-(

HOI2 replaced my semi-annual "Axis and Allies" weekends with my friends. We would either play hotseat or lan-style HOI2 and have a blast. The game was seriously addicting...

To me, the HOI series exemplifies the PC gaming heritage, where the developers really expect the end-user to have brains. The game is built well, does have a learning curve (but it's manageable), and the gameplay has such longevity.

Here is to HOI3 being just as good. :)

I have never even heard of this series but it sounds pretty awesome. Will definitely check out III when it comes out.

I've always wanted to play the first two when they first came out, but I never got around to actually getting/playing them. Looking at some of the screenshots of HoI3, this new iteration seems highly polished, maybe I won't skip this one.
