Ahh, came home from work, just to look outside my window and see lightening blowing the $^&#* out of the telephone poll power transformer! I ran to my bedroom to see smoke coming out of the back of my PC! I quickly jurked the box out from under my desk only to find my power strip was on fire, not my PC! w00t! w00t!

Even though the PC evaded destuction, I went out and bought a UPS backup with heavy duty surge protector today - it was $250 bucks but well worth it

If you like that story genocide then here's a lightning story that'll give you a giggle.
A few years back my step father was using the second bathroom in the rear of my parents house.The circuit box/breakers are located directly over the top of the toilet.Lightning struck the back of the house on the other side of the box.Before the roar of the thunder had even faded he had burst throught the swinging door to the bathroom,his pants still around his ankles with a terrified look on his face.I guess the things that made it funniest were that we were shure a world record for pants around your ankles-speed wadling had been set,and that he was now in a room full of people who were there for his birthday party.
