So I went to a rock concert last night and when I got home I noticed my left ears hearing was kinda far/hollowy... I thought maybe I just needed to let it rest so I slept on it. Woke up this morning and when I got to work it still sounds far/hollowy. Should I go see an audiologist? or do these things take a while for it to heal? Thanks in advance for any input.

just wait another day or two and you will be fine. i saw ministry last year and was way too close to the speaker. my hearing was off for a couple of days and it really freaked me out.

It might take a few days, but it will go back to normal eventually.

yeah. the long term damage is permanent but in a few days everything will be back to normal.

You are experiencing a Temporary Threshold Shift (TTS). They can last for up to three days. Sometimes your hearing does not recover completely, at which point your TTS becames a Permanent Threshold Shift. There is nothing an audiologist can do for you in either case except tell you to wear earplugs next time.

what was this your first time?

thats very common...
after 200 or so concerts in the last 22 years im used to it lol...
it will ring for a day or so..
next time you may consider mild hearing protection.. (foamie earplugs) it can damage your hearing just as bad as a jet engine or other very loud exposures for any amount of time.

You may want to consider aural protection next time. 120 dBA for more than 15 minutes is very bad for your ears. I am 41 and can hear better than most in their 20's because people just don't give a crap about it.

Your not "used to it" you have hearing damage in the form of a Permanent Threshold Shift.

Keep going to concerts, and continually blow out your ears like that, you will suffer permanent damage to your ears, eventually. Wear plugs next time, being that close. Not worth it to me.

Pete Townsend of the Who, (hopefully some of you know who he is. :p ;) ) He's partially deaf now, from years of being exposed to loud music.

What happens is that your hearing returns to what you THINK is normal - but that bit of damage is permanent. You just can't tell yet.

Be smart and use some type of earplugs. I can tell you from personal experience, by the time you realize you have actual damage, it's too late. And since your hearing deteriorates naturally from aging anyway, you are just putting yourself on the leading edge, going downhill faster than everyone else.

Imagine losing your eyesight in 0.5% increments because of some activity. From one day to the next you can't notice the difference because the change is so slight. When you finally DO notice the difference, you wish you had been careful earlier.

this is why people think 128 kbps MP3 is CD quality. Go to enough live concerts and you won't be able to tell them apart :(
