I thought nvidia was angry about BFG10k's reviews of the 470 and is now ignoring ABT.

On-Topic

I still have no issues with the drivers for my 4870. I'm still not a fan of CCC, but ATT works just fine.

I don't think Nvidia is worried about there new cards getting more fps then a gtx 285 in a 5 year old game do you?

Well I wouldn't be.

ON topic:

My 5750 drivers were horrible for the first 3 months. For the past 3 or 4 they been much better.

I sold my 5870s and got a GTX 260...

No I'm srsly.

Just waiting for a cooler running Nvidia card.

I'd get ATI cards if I was running an AMD system though, but I'm not...

They sucked for the first 5 months the 5000 series came out, but I'm 95% satisfied now. I still can't use Aero desktop, but it's stable in games, no crashy crashy often, low power consumption, quiet when idle and under load.

Oh wow, that sucks for you.

Never had driver issues with my 5870s. Well except in games where there would be graphical glitches and anomolies (like missing heads or whatever in Crysis).

I would absolutely smash taht 5870 if I couldn't get it to even run Aero.

Only driver issue I have with my ATI 4890 is sometimes the LCD doesn't sync up right coming out of sleep over DVI. Minor issue. Everything else is smooth.

Lots of problems flamed on forums can seem like driver issues but are probably temperature or system install or other goofy variable related.
I thought I was crashing out of games because of drivers but it was the damn poorly mounted heatsink and thermal paste causing overheating.

They both have issues from time-to-time... Last year NV had a stuttering issue with Fallout 3 they took months to fix. The only work around was to use older drivers. ATI had (has?) the gray screen issue...

So far my GTX 470 has been trouble free driver wise.

+1.

Both companies have driver issues from time to time. NV just had a fire they put out with their drivers affecting the card's fan speed control. I hear complaints about artifacting against both with games like BFBC2.

Most likely your card will be fine.

Well they did get in touch with him to complain, so it appears that they arnt worried about getting more performance in older games but they are worried about any one pointing that out.

At OP: Given your card hasn't arrived yet why don't you wait until you actually have some problems before posting about them? o_O

I've had 0 problems with ATI or nVidia drivers in the last year or so. Both are fine. Most people having issues with either one are imho, doing something wrong. . .If you can't run aero man...I'd go nuts. That can't be an ati driver problem though. Shoot, Aero runs fine on my "free" computer on an old 2600pro that i repaired, latest drivers. Heh.

It can run it, it just can't run it without getting the error about ATI drivers failing and trying to recover non-stop in a loop. It use to do that in 2D desktop too until 10.4; then 2D got fixed, but Aero still crashes. So I either lose more sleep, RMA it and wait a few weeks, or just say screw it, turn off Aero. Sucks, but thus is computers.

Theres something specificity wrong with your setup there, if the 5 series cards had problems with Aero AMD would have some serious problems on their hands.

So you need to RMA that card (if it is the card) or troubleshoot the rest of the system.

One time I heard someone had a problem with a honda civic so I will never buy a honda...

Honda Civic works like a champ until the timing belt breaks during usage. It will bend everything in your engine including valves, piston etc. My car broke it twice and never broke anything, I love my eclipse. :)

Back on topic, ATi drivers tended to be a little etchy at the X800XT era, AGP Gart issues arised quite often, but my X1950XT AGP worked like a champ, my gf HD 3870 and her X1950GT AGP worked like a champ, my current cards and my previous HD 3850 AGP worked like a champ, I had some minor scaling issues with Assassin Creed 2, but the game is so CPU bound.

5870 > 480 converts are idiots who have nothing better to do with their money.

Or Nvidia focus group members who get free hardware to pimp Nvidia on message boards. Not that they'd have any motive to overplay problems in ATI's drivers or anything...

Anyway, I've had some problems but relatively trouble free life overall with drivers from both companies. My current pet peeve is hitching using NV drivers newer than 185.x on Fallout 3 on a 275. Haven't checked to see if the latest drivers fix it but it was still broken as of the "oops set your card on fire" drivers a few months ago.

Well my fears have been confirmed. Have my card up and running and immediately I have a major graphical bug in gothic 3. It is a driver issue that ATI has not addressed apparently in over a year. Very disappointing as I had no issues with this game and my 8800. The shadows are totally borked. *sigh*

Honestly, both camps have their problems. I was furious when I discovered Fallout 3 was unplayable on my GTX285 unless I reverted to old drivers. Also, having grass draw in the wrong places in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with my HD5970 can be annoying too!

But meh, not a whole bunch you can do about it. It's something you have to deal with if you do computer gaming: sooner or later you are going to run into a game that has driver issues with your video card brand of choice.

You should sell it and buy an Nvidia card mate. :)

Well to amend my previous rant the community out there is great. They developed a patch that includes a work around for ati shadows. Runs just fine now, but too bad it takes a community to fix the game. Card itself is fantastic. Wish atis driver team was up to Nvidias standards though.

At least I don't remember ATI releasing a driver that could brick your card :p

Are you saying the game community patched the game and that's something the ATI driver team should have done? :\
