"The Lotus Eater" and "Porcelain Heart" are online. I listened to most of "The Lotus Eater", and it sounded pretty good to me (a bit faster, and maybe heavier, than songs from "Ghost Reveries").

Anyone else heard the songs? Comments?

Never been a huge Opeth fan. Blackwater Park would still be my favorite of their's. Only heard Watershed a few times and it's "meh" for me.

I never got into Opeth for some reason, and yet they are a type of band i figured i would get into. I did like the acoustic album though. Ill give this album a shot as well.

So they're "online" but we don't get a link? I didn't find it on their myspace or main page so please elaborate.

You may have to do a bit of searching...or just look them up on Youtube (Dinodance, or something, got a copy of them...you can search for that too).

I figured I could get into them pretty easily as well...took me two full years to fully appreciate and understand what was so awesome about (IMO) "Ghost Reveries", and now I love them.

"The Lotus Eater" is definitely an interesting song...it's a lot faster than anything from "Ghost Reveries", though it's full of clean vocals (but it's pretty powerful, and when the growling comes in, it fits REALLY well). The intro is pretty strange...Akerfeldt is singing and humming this strange melody (no real words spoken) to some weird background stuff, and then it just blasts right into the song. It also has a section where it sounds like a weird jazzy/beeping section (I don't know what else to call it)...it really threw me off, but I'm really getting into this song. It's weird to say this, but this song is fun to listen to...I generally don't think of "fun" music when I think of Opeth (but it's still awesome).

"Porcelain Heart" is alright for me...it's mostly slower, more repetitive...though it does have a couple sections that are bit faster paced, and they're pretty cool to listen to. In a way, this is comparable to "The Grand Conjuration" for me. It's generally slower, has a heavy riff that plays and switches back and forth between the heavy/soft part...not a lot of variation, and a few cool parts thrown in. Overall, it's just "OK" for me.

If this album is more like "The Lotus Eater" than "Porcelain Heart", it should be pretty good and fairly exciting/fun to listen to.

There are no fans of Opeth at my office either, but that doesn't stop me from blasting them with a healthy dose of metal. :)

I can't wait to hear how "Would?" sounds.

I'm disapointed. There has not been a single Opeth album that I havn't liked until maybe now.. I guess I was hoping for something that sounded like a mix of still life, blackwater park and ghost reveries. well.. and everything else. lol

The changes are disjointed.. not much flow to the songs. It's like they pulled most of the stuff out of the music that made me like Opeth.

I'll have to wait until I get the album to hear all of the songs though. Maybe it's different in context with each other.

whoa wtf. there's new opeth out?

<-- Would listen to Opeth day and night. First got into death metal through Opeth...

I guess I totally forgot to pay attention to Opeth after getting sick of them for listening like 6 hours a day non-stop (at work).

I'm crazy about Arch Enemy now. Much more upbeat.. not as poetic, just pure rocking out. Love them both.
