About three months ago I found a weird spot on my left... you know. It hasn't gotten any better or worse but I decided to go to the doctors last week to get it checked out. She was concerned (but didn't think it was anything major) so she sent me to get an ultrasound. That was today.

Things seemed to be okay until the very end where she said "hmmm, I think I want to take some pictures of your kidneys too". She did that, and then left and came back and left again... I assume she was talking to the doctor. After a few minutes, she said we were all done but that the doctor was going to come in and talk to me. I waited about ten minutes, and finally the tech came back and said "nevermind, you can go and you'll hear from your doctor".

Does anyone have any idea why they might want to do checks on the kidneys too, and if that's normal or not? Also, the back and forth with the doctor has me concerned, but I'm trying to just wait until tomorrow to hear back and not think about it too much...

I had an ultrasound performed on my kidney's about ten years ago after some blood tests showed some elevated levels of creatine(I believe). After the utlrasound, they didn't find anything abnormal. And I haven't had any issues since.

My guess is since they were down there, a quick look of the kidney's wasn't a bad thing unless you've had recent blood tests that may have shown something.

Sometimes they'll look at kidneys if they think there might be something else going on. They usually have to talk to the doctor to get an order to do so.

Generally speaking if you are ever curious just ask. Most of us will gladly explain whats going on or why we are doing a certain thing.

I did. She said it was "normal" for them to check the kidneys. Then when she was done, she said she wanted the doctor to come in and talk to me. She said that was "normal" too. I asked each time....

Then the doctor ended up not wanting to come in to talk to me, and she said I would hear from my doctor soon.

The tech definitely didn't go anywhere to get permission. She just went right to the kidneys while saying "I want to get some pictures of the kidneys too". She didn't call anyone. Unless she has a way to text and ask for permission or something.

So are you saying it may not be something bad with the boys but something else?
