Anyone know about HealthNet? I think my former employer is trying to pull a fast one on me.

Basically before I left, my former company told me that if I wanted coverage till the end of the month, I'd have to cover my "weekly payments". It was my understanding that most health insurance providers require payment for a month ahead of time (So, if I was to be covered for May, it would have been taken care of at the end of April). Do you guys know if that is the case with HealthNet as well?

I agreed to do consulting work for them before leaving, so instead of them paying me my first few weeks, they said they'd put that towards my health coverage... they never would give me an exact amount of how much it would be to keep coverage so I could just send them a check.

Finally, I received a COBRA letter that clearly stated that THEY would be paying for coverage till the end of May, which is the opposite of what we agreed to.

Does it sound like they're trying to screw me out of a couple hundred bucks?

Normally under COBRA, the company picks up their portion they would have normally paid for you, and you pick up the extra cost (forget what the percentage is).

Regardless, your company should be providing you with a cost per month. The fact that they haven't is very shady.
