I have health insurance with my (small) company and was wondering if it typically covered visits to a psychiatrist or social worker? I don't really want to ask anyone around here since it's kind of a private matter. Also if it would cover any possible prescriptions from said shrink.

normally, yes. depending on your plan and the doctor/service.

you could always call your insurance company.

i believe psychiatric stuff is usually covered by a secondary carrier, the way your dental or vision is set up.

so you have to find out what provisions your plan has made for psychiatric stuff.

Most insurance providers have a seperate mental health subsidiary... it should have a phone number on your medical insurance cards that says "To access mental health benefits call ..."
