Is it possible for me to add my g/f to my health insurance plan? She isnt insured, I am, we aren't married..yadda yadda

No, you can't add "friends" to your insurance plans, sorry.
Regardless of if you're banging her or engaged, or whatever, unless you're married you're "Friends" and that doesn't count. 🙂

Generally, no.

Is your health insurance is provided throught your employer? Do you and your girlfriend live together?

If so, check if your plan provides coverage for domestic partners.

I've yet to see a plan that offers that benefit.
Know any companies that do it? OneHealthPlan/BlueCross/BlueShield/Pacificare/HealthNet all require a "spouse."

Isn't it the employer's choice to offer the benefit or not, rather than the HMO's?

My last three jobs offered domestic partner benefits (with the same cost to the employee as spouse benefits) so I assumed it was becoming relatively standard.

Huh. Looks like you're right:

I've never heard of that, and we sell group health insurance too.
Must be a thing with large group insurance, because AFAIK individual plans don't offer that. Definitely something for me to research though, because I know a lot of people are waiting on the marriage thing even though they might as well be hitched 😉

it's more up to the employer, not the healthcare provider.

in my case, i work for a major pharmaceutical company and my employer will allow me to add my girlfriend to the coverage if i choose to. she has a coverage of her own through her company though. it all depends on your employer.

Well the provider has to offer that option to the employer, who in turn offers it to the employee.
The provider is the one, after all, who is underwriting the policy.
