My policy renewal just arrived yesterday with Assurant Health and went down by $8. But then my policy is through USAA and provides umbrella coverage in the sense that I have a $5k deductible. I pay until $5k, they pay for everything beyond that.

When people are worried about keeping their jobs, companies take advantage by holding back raises and cutting benefits. "Tough times" = time to improve profits at your expense.

Exactly. A lot of benefits were stripped in 2008, but the average employee has been getting the short end of the stick as far as benefits are concerned for the past 30 years.

That is what you get with free markets, companies don't care about you, you're just a tool to them. The system should be set up to work FOR us, not us working for the system.

And don't be fooled, all the posters you see in here hating on public employees pension plans, excellent health care, retirement at a reasonable age, UNIONS, and job security are purely jealous that the private sector has lost out on all these advantages slowly over the years. We should be looking to get the private sector back up to that level, not drag them down.

Umm, that is what people want.

The have-nots anyway.

The have-nots want the haves to pay for their stuff. If you CANT be denied for coverage but you cant pay either, the rest of us have to. All our rates go up a thousand percent and then they give discounts for folks below the poverty line.

You are right. People didn't want this. They asked for it though. What idiot thought that high risk people being added, more overall who don't pay what their medical treatment cost wouldn't see their own premiums rise? Supporters begged for this, the fruits of their labor. Next they'll say they didn't see the wealthy of France leaving. Oops.

Yes, because that is totally why the rates increased...
The next time you have a "thought"... just don't.
Also P&N is:

$90 a paycheck every 2 weeks for 80/20 1200 max in network 2400 max out for my whole family. 10 bucks for dental. but I work for a mining company and they take care of their people. plus they match dollar to dollar up to 5% plus they give you an extra 4% to everyone regardless if you contribute or not.

My company didn't. Same benefits, same premiums - for the employees, anyway. They also gave me a 5% raise, earlier this year.

Companies that treat their employees badly in order to "improve profits" don't keep good employees very long. They'll be paid in kind, when the economy comes back.

Apparently, you do not understand what the Healthcare package under Obama was about.

Or the Democrat agenda on taxes.

The breaking point is close, I can taste it. Anything that rises above inflation is always in for a reality check.

baby boomers are getting fatter and older.....

And poorer. And clutching to their jobs. And plan to leave the next generation a bucket load of debt and zero inheritance. Thanks baby boomers. You always quit while the going is good instead of riding it to the bitter end lol. Passing on of the family dynasty fail. When they said "You can be anything you want to be" I don't think they were thinking starbucks barista with $100,000 in college loans.

Just wait until 2014 when all of the large employers dump their unhealthy employees from their self-insured plans onto the individual market and individual premiums go up 100+%...

What is the cause of this? It pretty much has to be increased spending on the part of insurance companies. What's causing that? Medical care expense is probably the one thing I think should be limited. It is the one socialist concession I will make. It is the only area where the demand is infinite, and thus the suppliers can charge basically as much as they can get. Competition among healthcare providers is stymied by the urgency in which healthcare is generally needed. You generally go to the closest place and pay their price because you couldn't have made it to a better place in time. Since we're talking about your dearest possession, that being your body, we are talking about either paying the insane premium to keep it, or artificially reducing the costs outside of the regular capitalist system. We can afford to do this.

We cannot afford to do this in any other area though. Never forget that.
