So, I designed a pattern and layout for a new headwear for a very well-known company. I also took the liberty of creating a related derivative of the brands logo.

I emailed the design team there, and spoke to a family member of the owner (head designer). (i.e. I emailed Tommy Hilfiger and spoke to Troy Hilfiger -- NOTE that the company isn't Tommy). He mentioned that the company buys freelance work, ideas, etc.

What should I ask for money-wise? $1000, $5000, $10k, comission? Once this product is sold, I will update ATOT on the details.

Please note, this could potentially be the new theme for an entire season of clothing once I sell my original headwear designs and concepts.

That's what I was thinking, although I really had to dig to get a SINGLE email for the company. From there, the head designer emailed me and CCed the email to 3 others within the company! Sounds exciting.

That's what I was referring to above. I don't know how this brand normally handles things.

Thanks meltie. This is a bonus because - dispite my love for the creative process - I am an engineering student -> IP Law. At least I get my foot in the door for some money on the side.

Intellectual Property law -> Patent Law. I intern at Dallas' largest IP firm. I didn't make that connection until just now. Hmm, am I really cut out for this =P

Anyway, I thought about that briefly as well. Then again, it would be in my benefit if I 'asked for too much' or 'they didn't like my concepts', because then I get to take them to court and make oodles.
