I play battlefield 1942 and other games, What is a good USB headset for communications with my teammates?

What are the software requirements?

I use WIN XP Pro

Thanks,
Rob

If you've got some dough to burn. Sennheiser makes a pair of USB headphones with a mic that sound scrumptilious @ $140. Otherwise I'd recommend Plantronics. They have consistently made the best headphone/mic combo. Check out the DSP-500 which received a 9 from maximum pc $110 (may not be USB). For a lot less mulah, logitech makes a mediocre pair of USB cans called 'USB 300' for $50.

You'll probably want to go with the Plantronics... But make sure you at least buy like a 40 dollar pair or else they will be completely dry sounding. Sennheiser makes really good headphones, but as said before, they're expensive.

I always just use my Logitech USB headset that I bought for my PS2, but I still need my speakers so the game's sound is bearable.

Best you can buy for sound and mic is easily the Senheiser PC 150s, Nothing and I mean nothing in the price range touches them. But be careful when connecting them as their connectors are quite flimsy. And if you have a big head the top of them can be a little uncomfortable resting on your head.

Otherwise though I have listened to many of them and for $35 nothing comes clsoe. These used to be like $80 headset. For some reason the price has come down a ton lately. Check Amazon or Ecost and good luck friend.

I've got the Plantronics .Audio 90's and they're ok though not usb. If you get the Plantronics DSP 500's or other usb cans remember that some of them have their own sound card built in (I know the DSP 500's do for sure because my Dad has a set) so you won't be getting the sound effects your sound card produces, like EAX for Creative, in games. Also on my Dad's set the DSP 500's produce a loud hiss all the time.
