Headset adapter?

Is there any adapter that'll let me use a headset with two plugs (headphones and microphone) with my 360 controller? I don't want to hear game audio through my headphones or anything, I just want to replace my Microsoft headsets with a computer headset that I have, because my MS headset cuts in and out a lot (the wire is so thin, I assume there's a break in it somewhere). There's nothing unique about the MS headset, it uses a standard headset plug that works with other devices (my wife uses it with our cordless phone sometimes), so a product that is intended for a phone would work.

Google yielded only 3.5mm headset to 2.5mm headset adapters - that is, one plug headsets. Worst case I could use one of those with my iPhone earphones, but I really would rather use my nice new Sennheiser headset.

Simply put... your options are:

- use the MS headphones + mic
- use your own headset as the mic and pipe the XBL talk over your speakers instead of the headset

I think companies like logitech that often make accessories for consoles would be sitting on a goldmine if they made a high-quality headset for x360.

What part of it is cutting out? Your mic or the 14 year old smack talk?

I'd start with this, and then try to find an adapter to get from your setup to a 2.5mm jack. Sounds doable, but I'm not sure.

The newest MS headsets don't have that piece. They just plug right into the headset jack without touching the two things on the sides. So I think all I need is an adapter to get from PC headset to the 2.5mm jack, and I'm good to go. That adapter is what I can't find though.

I could probably build the darn thing myself with parts from Radio Shack, but it'd be clunky.

I still am not exactly sure what you're looking for. You have a headset with 2 3.5mm plugs - one for input and one for output (mic and speakers)?

So you want a converter which would take 2 3.5mm inputs and convert to 1 2.5mm headset output?

True, but I just really enjoy having volume/mute controls right there though.

I did prefer the old style for that reason, but I can survive with the inline volume/mute controls on my headset.

You've probably found both links through Google (I did). Outside of that I don't see an existing product.
